Falconry is the ancient sport of hunting quarry with a trained bird of prey. Nowadays, falconry is practiced for a multitude of reasons, like for sport, education, rehabilitation, and pest management (also known as abatement). It is the most heavily regulated field sport in the United States, only practiced by 4,000 licensed falconers. Globally, there are perhaps 50,000 falconers, mostly found in the Middle East, the UK, and the United States of America. To become a falconer is a rigorous set of tasks, requiring you to take a test, get a facilities inspected by the state, and another practicing falconer to sponsor you over the course of two years, ensuring you are doing everything in an ethical and proper manner.
